Under the new requirements, the Tasmanian government has released changes regarding its graduate stream,190 and 491 sponsorship requirements.
CHANGES RELATED TO TASMANIAN GRADUATE STREAM
NOTE: THESE CHANGES APPLY TO STUDENTS COMMENCING THEIR STUDY AFTER 30 JUNE 2021
SUBCLASS 190 NOMINATION APPLICANTS
Applicants must have completed a course of at least 92 weeks as a full-time student and also have lived in Tasmania for two years.
All applicants for subclass 190 and subclass 491 must provide a career plan. The plan must explain how their studies have increased their ability to find skilled work in Tasmania. An exemption will be given to those who are already working in a skilled capacity/position.
Studies in Certificate III and IV must be directly related to a Priority Industry Training and Workforce Development Area.
Applicants completing their studies on any other visa than a student visa must have completed a course directly related to a Priority Industry Training and Workforce Development Area so that all applicants must have reasonable prospects for skilled employment within 2 or 3 years of nomination.
CHANGES RELATED TO WORKING IN TASMANIA
An updated and reviewed version of the Tasmanian Skilled Occupation List was published on 29 January 2021 (for subclass 190 applicants. As per the revised version
All new applicants must receive pay and conditions similar to Australian permanent residents or citizens.
Employment commencing after 29 January 2021, pay must also be equivalent to the salary rate in the local labour market for similar positions.
Employment commencing after 29 January 2021 in positions classified at ANZSCO skill level 4 or 5 will not be eligible for nomination unless:
the employment is ongoing for at least 6 months beyond the application date
the applicant has reasonable career development prospects in the industry
the employment is located at least 50 kilometres from a population centre of more than 5000 people, in a position for which there is a genuine and demonstrated severe labour recruitment difficulty, or
it is associated with aged care and individual support (Nursing Support and Personal care Workers) (Qualifications relevant to the skill at least Cert III required)
CHANGES RELATED TO OVERSEAS APPLICANTS (TSOL AND JOB OFFER LETTER
A reviewed and updated version of the Tasmanian Skilled Occupation List was published on 29 January 2021. Accordingly, applications will only be accepted via skill select after being invited to apply by Migration Tasmania.
Pay and conditions must be equivalent to the market salary of Australian permanent residents and citizens.
